É realmente absurdo ver policiais em Cumeré agindo como
se fossem militares. O papel da polícia é garantir a ordem social, e a formação
dos seus agentes tem foco no conhecimento científico e na investigação
criminal. Geralmente, às autoridades policiais é concedido o poder de usar a
força no cumprimento das leis. Essa função é intrinsecamente civil, realizada
por profissionais e instituições civis. O que a polícia realmente necessita é
de uma formação que promova uma maior aproximação entre os seus agentes e a
comunidade, permitindo respostas mais ágeis e eficazes para a população, além
de ações preventivas contra a criminalidade.
Atualmente, a prioridade da polícia deveria ser o combate
à proliferação das drogas em todos os bairros da capital, Bissau, que se
configura como uma epidemia de difícil controle. Exercícios militares, num
ambiente de falta de recursos em Cumeré, não são a solução para os problemas da
desordem social.
